Where is Harry Potter World?
First up, let’s talk about what and where I mean when I say “Harry Potter World”! This itinerary is focusing on the Harry Potter World at Universal Orlando Resort in Florida, USA.
Now, you might be thinking “duh!” but did you know there are 4 different Wizarding Worlds around the globe? The other three are located in Universal Studios Japan, Universal Studios Hollywood, and Universal Studios Beijing.
But don’t worry, the Harry Potter World in Orlando is hands-down the best one, thanks to having the one and only Diagon Alley! And soon, you’ll also be able to experience an entire new Harry Potter land at Epic Universe, Universal’s newest theme park in Orlando.
For now, this itinerary is going to cover how to spend 2 days at Harry Potter World in Orlando, between Diagon Alley and Hogwarts/Hogsmeade!
Now let’s talk about how to get to these places!

Don’t forget to grab this before your trip. The perfect hat for your park day at Universal Orlando!
How to Get to Harry Potter World
If you didn’t know, Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade Village (where the Hogwarts Castle is) are actually split between Universal’s two main theme parks: Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.
The parks are right next to each other, so don’t stress! And they are connected by the magical Hogswarts Express, just like in the books and movies.
However, to ride the Hogwarts Express, you’ll need a park-to-park ticket. With this kind of ticket, you’ll be able to access both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure in the same day.
Now, you don’t NEED this kind of ticket to tackle this 2-day itinerary. You could simply spend one day in Diagon Alley (Universal) and one day in Hogsmeade (Islands). In fact, that is what most people do since they have two full days in the park!
But if you are a true Harry Potter fan, riding the Hogwarts Express is a must-do experience! Getting to ride the train and walk through Platform 9 and 3/4 is basically a right of passage.
Park-to-park tickets are around $50 more than one park per day tickets, so it is up to you if it is worth the splurge!
For the purpose of this itinerary, I am going to assume you don’t have a park-to-park ticket! However if you do, you are free to hop between parks and mix and match day 1 and day 2 as you see fit.
Note: I wouldn’t recommend going between parks more than once per day. It’s just not necessary and will waste time!

Choosing How Many Days You Need in Harry Potter World
While this is specifically a 2-day Harry Potter World itinerary, you might be wondering how many days you actually need to see and do it all!
The answer is.. it’s complicated!
As you probably know, there is a whole lot more to see and do inside Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure besides Harry Potter World. Both parks have several other lands and fantastic rides to experience, whether you’re into Marvel, Jurassic World, King Kong, Minions, etc.!
Most people coming to Universal Orlando want to see and do it all, not just Harry Potter World. For this reason, you really do need a few days to be able to experience everything Universal has to offer. I recommend at least 2 days (hence this itinerary).
But if your primary goal is to experience Harry Potter World and you don’t care about anything else, you could see and do everything in both sides of Harry Potter World in one day with a park-to-park ticket.
However, this would leave pretty much no time for any other lands in the parks. So it’s up to you!
For this itinerary, we will focus on Harry Potter World on both days, but there will still be time in the afternoons to explore other areas of Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. (And I’ll give my recommendations on where your time is best spent!).
And if you only have ONE day to see Harry Potter World, you can check out my One Day Harry Potter World Itinerary here.

Staying at a Universal hotel comes with exclusive perks that make your time at the parks smoother and more enjoyable, like Express Passes (Premier only) and early park entry (all hotels)!

Perfect 2 Day Harry Potter World Itinerary for First Timer Visitors to Orlando
Now that we’ve covered all the logistics about tickets, where to stay, and how many days you really need, it’s time to dive into this 2 day Harry Potter World itinerary!
As mentioned, this itinerary is written assuming you do not have a park-to-park ticket. So, you will spend one day in Universal Studios and one day in Islands of Adventure.
Again, this means you won’t be able to ride the Hogwarts Express train between the two lands (and parks!). But if you do have a park-to-park ticket, feel free to mix things up with this itinerary and hop between lands.
In terms of the itinerary, you can totally flip-flop which days you do which park! It doesn’t matter at all. However, if you are trying to have a true Harry Potter experience, you may want to do Diagon Alley first just like Harry before heading to Hogwarts!
🏨 Insider Tip: If you are staying at a Universal hotel, make sure to check Universal’s official calendar to see which park has Early Park Admission during your trip. Universal rotates this depending on the season. Some days, Universal Studios will open early, while other days, it will be Islands of Adventure. If you can, take advantage of this for both days (unfortunately, this is unlikely since they alternate by month, not by day).
Day 1: Diagon Alley at Universal Studios
Welcome, Harry, to Diagon Alley! (Sorry, I had to!!)
Today is dedicated to the incredible Diagon Alley inside Universal Studios, which opened in 2014 (I was actually there for opening day!).
You’ll spend your entire morning and early afternoon here before heading back in the evening for a totally different experience!
Early Morning: Arrival and Riding Gringotts
Arriving at Universal and Getting to Diagon Alley
To start your day off, I recommend arriving to the parks around 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to park entry (whether that’s normal park entry or early entry will depend on if you are staying on-site!).
If you are staying at a Universal hotel, I highly highly recommend taking advantage of the free shuttles, walking paths, or boats that run between the hotels and the parks. (Not all of the hotels have the walking paths and boats, but they all have free shuttles to CityWalk!)
CityWalk is the main entertainment and shopping area of Universal Orlando Resort. If you don’t take advantage of the free transportation, you’ll have to drive to the main parking garages and deals with lines of people parking, which is not fun!
Instead, use a Universal bus or ferry to arrive directly at CityWalk, go through Security, and make your way towards Universal Studios (on the right side of the lake).
Once you enter Universal Studios, walk straight until you reach the end of the New York area, make a right towards Mummy, and keep walking straight through San Fransisco. After you pass through San Fransisco, you’ll reach the London area, where Diagon Alley awaits!
Quick Tip: I recommend grabbing breakfast at your hotel so you can hit the ground running when you arrive at Universal! There will be time for snacks (or second breakfast) later in the morning.

Finding Diagon Alley
Funny enough, Diagon Alley can be hard to find! Just like in the books and movies, Diagon Alley is purposefully hidden in the London area to give the same illusion as in the books.
I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen walk right past the entrance to Diagon Alley, then have to ask an employee where it is. A lot of people think it’s the entrance to a bathroom!
Don’t worry, I am going to give you the deets so you don’t look like a total muggle! 😉
Below is a photo of the entrance to Diagon Alley. Walk through either of those brick passageways (left photo), which are to the right of the faux Leicester Square Station (right photo).
Riding Escape from Gringotts
Once you enter Diagon Alley, you’ll pass through the brick wall (no umbrella tapping required) and immediately feel like you’ve been transported into the books/movies!
With themed Harry Potter music playing, train sounds from above, and the glittering shops of Diagon Alley around you, I promise you’ll forget you’re in Florida (minus the heat…).
Don’t forget to look up and see the iconic dragon atop Gringotts Bank, straight out of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This is your first destination! Don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the rest of Diagon Alley afterwards.
Underneath the dragon you’ll find the famous Gringotts Bank, and inside, the Escape from Gringotts Ride!
This ride is my personal favorite ride at Universal, and it’s a must-do on any Harry Potter World itinerary! Because it’s so popular, the line for this ride can get pretty long, which is why I recommend heading straight there as soon as you arrive at Diagon Alley.
The entrance to the ride is on the right side, just underneath the dragon. If you have a bag, you’ll need to store it in a locker, which is free while you ride! The lockers are located right next to the ride entrance.
🎢 Insider Tip: If the line is super long, consider using the “single rider” line! This line is often way shorter than the normal line, but you’ll miss some of the queue and be split up from your party when it comes time to actually ride the ride.
The ride itself is an indoor coaster / dark ride, but it’s not super intense! You don’t go too fast or upside down, but it might be a little scary for small children, since you do encounter Voldemort and some other intense sights!
This ride perfectly blends screens and set pieces to make you feel like you’re actually zooming through the bowels of Gringotts on a magical cart!
Once you finish the ride, you’ll exit through Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment, which is one of the main shops in Diagon and a great place to shop for souvenirs!
Late Morning: Gringotts and Ollivander’s
Exchanging Dollars for Galleon
After you’re done riding Gringotts, it’s time to get some wizarding money and then buy a wand!
This is one of the most underrated experiences in Harry Potter World, especially if you have kids. Right next to Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment, you’ll find the Gringotts Money Exchange, where you can exchange dollars for wizarding money!
This money can be used throughout Harry Potter World and luckily has a 1:1 exchange rate!
Don’t worry about getting cash out before, you can pay with a debit or credit card and they’ll give you the fake dollars! And when you use the money at shops and restaurants, your change will be in American dollars.
💰 Insider Tip: Make sure to interact with the goblin inside, he might even talk back to you!
Choosing a Wand
If you’ve seen the Harry Potter movies or read the books, you know buying a wand is the most important thing to do in Diagon Alley before heading off to Hogwarts. Well, Universal has you covered!
In both Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade Village, you’ll find Ollivander’s Wand Shop. But it’s not just a shop! (Hence the line that normally forms to get in).
When entering Ollivander’s, you’ll be treated to a short interactive experience with the wand maker, where one lucky guest (usually a child) will be selected to see which wand “chooses” them.
Just like in the Wizarding World, the wand chooses the wizard! The guest will test out a few different wands and see the reactions from them, before they find their perfect wand.
Once the show is over, all guests enter the main wand shop where they can purchase any wand they choose.
🪄 Insider Tip: If the line is long for Ollivander’s or you just don’t care to see the interactive show, you can enter the main shop and purchase a wand with no line!
There are two types of wands available at Universal: interactive and non-interactive. If you want the full experience of Harry Potter World, I highly recommend purchasing an interactive wand!
These allow you to cast spells throughout Harry Potter World and feel like a real witch or wizard. Think making things levitate, turning off lights, creating a rain shower, and so much more! This is one of the most fun things to do at Harry Potter World, for both kids and adults!
When you buy an interactive wand, you’ll be given a map of all the spell locations throughout both Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade. You can also find them by looking for the medallions on the ground – these mark exactly where to cast your spell!
Early Afternoon: Lunch & Shopping in Diagon Alley
Post-Ride Snacks or Early Lunch
After you’ve finished up with Gringotts and Ollivander’s, you might be a little hungry. Depending on the time, I recommend grabbing a quick snack or a full lunch!
For snacks, you can head over to the Hopping Pot, which is tucked in the opposite corner of Diagon Alley towards the entrance.
This quick-service stand sells non-alcoholic themed drinks like Butterbeer, Fishy Green Ale, and Pumpkin Juice, as well as alcoholic drinks! They also have snack foods like chips and beef pasties (my favorite!).
If it’s later in the day and you want a real meal, head over to the Leaky Cauldron, which is on your left when you enter Diagon Alley. Here, you’ll find a wider selection of food, both breakfast and lunch, depending on the time of day!
The Leaky Cauldron is a sit-down restaurant with British-style food, so you’ll place your order and then be assigned a table inside.
For breakfast, which goes until 10:30am, they have everything from eggs, bacon, and pancakes to more traditional British food like black pudding, English bacon, baked beans, and grilled tomato!
Lunch leans even more heavily into British food with options like Bangers & Mash, Cottage Pie, Scotch Eggs, and Fish & Chips. (If this doesn’t suit your taste, you can grab a more American lunch at several places throughout the rest of the park!).
Shopping in Diagon Alley
After lunch, it’s time for the best part of Diagon Alley: exploring the shops and casting spells throughout the land!
Now you might be thinking, “oh great, spending money!”. But the shopping in Diagon Alley isn’t really about buying things, though I’m sure you will be tempted.
Universal put a lot of time and detail into the different shops around Diagon Alley, with tons of hidden gems and Easter eggs related to the books and movies! It’s honestly the best part of this land.
Below is a quick summary of the main shops in Diagon Alley, but you can check out all the details in my complete guide to All the Shops and Stores to Visit in Harry Potter World – Coming Soon!
Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes is one of the first things you’ll notice when you walk into Diagon Alley (aside from the giant dragon on top of Gringotts). It’s straight out of the book/movies, including the giant Weasley head outside and the iconic magical prank items like Extendable Ears, Pygmy Puffs, and U-No-Poo.
Attached to the joke shop, you’ll also find Quality Quidditch Supplies, where you can grab all your quidditch gear, including unique apparel for each house and some speciality items like real Quaffles and of course, the Golden Snitch!
Also connected is Sugarplum’s Sweet Shop, which sells all the iconic sweets from the books and movies like Chocolate Frogs, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans, and more! You’ll find a similar store (Honeydukes) over in Hogsmeade.
Continuing down into Diagon Alley, you’ll find one of my favorites, Madam Malkin’s Robes for All Occasions. This store is often overlooked, as most people don’t realize you can go in!
It’s a large shop with each house’s wizarding robes, plus other clothes and accessories, including the iconic “H” and “R” sweaters that Mrs. Weasley made! There’s also a magical talking mirror you have to check out.
Another fun shop to the left of Gringotts is the Magical Menagerie. This quirky pet shop sells plush versions of magical creatures like Hedwig, Crookshanks, and even a Niffler!
But the true highlight of Diagon Alley is the inclusion of Knockturn Alley, the shadowy hidden area for Dark Arts lover. Just like in the books and movies, here you’ll find Borgin and Burkes, where you can shop for Death Eater-inspired apparel and accessories, plus plenty of Easter eggs from the movies (if you know where to look!).
Make sure to grab a beer from The Fountain of Fair Fortune while exploring the shops. And not just any beer, but a one-of-a-kind Harry Potter World beer (brewed only at Universal). My favorite is the Dragon Scale!
Ice Cream and a Show
By this point, you’ve done just about everything there is to do in Diagon Alley, except two things!
You might have worked up an appetite after shopping, so head over to Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour, which is right across from Gringotts.
This spot is one of my favorite Easter Eggs from the books. If you’ve only seen the movies, you might just think this is a random ice cream shop Universal created. But in the books, specifically in Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry spends a whole week exploring Diagon Alley and eating at Florean’s every day.
And it’s not just any ice cream! They have some very unique flavors like Granny Smith, Earl Grey and Lavender, Chocolate Chili, and of course, Butterbeer!
After grabbing your ice cream, head over to stage in the market area of Diagon Alley (next to the Money Exchange). Here, a few different free puppet shows are performed throughout the day, like The Tale of the Three Brothers and The Fountain of Fair Fortune. Another Easter Egg!
You can check the Universal app to see when the next showing is so you can time it accordingly. There’s several benches in this area and it’s covered, so it’s a great place to rest for a little while!
Late Afternoon: Explore the Rest of Universal
See the London Area
By this point you’ve explored every inch of Diagon Alley! Depending on your pace and what time you started, you should have at least a few hours left in the day, if not a whole afternoon!
I recommend exploring the rest of Universal Studios with whatever daylight you have left. But first, when you exit Diagon Alley, make sure to spend some time checking out the small London area right out front. There are some hidden gems here too!
You’ll definitely notice the purple, triple-decker Knight Bus right in front of you! In front of the bus, you’ll find Stan Shunpike (the conductor) and the shrunken head from the movies. This makes for a great photo op, and you can even interact with them.
Right across from the Knight Bus is a red London-esque telephone booth. There’s a special surprise inside, which you can read more about in my guide to all the Hidden Gems in Harry Potter World!
Heading out towards the Men in Black ride, you’ll find a familiar looking building with an even more familiar face inside! This is Grimmauld Place, Sirius Black’s childhood home. If you look up at the windows on the second floor, you’ll spot Kreacher the House Elf poking his head out!
🚪 Insider Tip: Most people think you have to knock on the door to get Kreacher to appear. Unfortunately, there’s no magic here. He’s just on a timer and will pop up regardless if someone knocks or not!
Other Parts of Universal
Now, because you prioritized Harry Potter World, you won’t have time to ride everything else in Universal Studios in one day.
So, I recommend figuring out which rides are most important to you for your afternoon. Or if you don’t really care, you can ride whatever has the shortest lines!
Personally, my favorites in Universal Studios are Men in Black (shooting game) and the Mummy (indoor roller coaster). The Jimmy Fallon ride is also fun, and I always ride E.T. for the nostalgia!
If you have young kids, you probably want to head to the Minion area at the front of the park, or maybe the Simpsons area right across from Diagon Alley.
I personally would skip Transformers since it’s almost identical to the Spiderman ride in Islands of Adventure, which is more fun to me! Fast and the Furious is another skip for me. But, choose whatever interests you most!
Evening: See Diagon Alley at Night
By the evening, you will probably be exhausted and ready to go back to your hotel, order room service, and pass out. BUT I have one more activity for you to tackle: seeing Diagon Alley at night!
Depending on what time of year you are visiting, this may or may not be possible. Park hours vary throughout the year, and in the summer, it may not get dark until 8:30pm.
However, if it works out for you and your itinerary, I highly recommend popping back into Diagon Alley after dusk to see the Wizarding World all lit up at night. It feels completely different than during the day, and a lot of the crowds will have thinned out.
Spend some time taking in the twinkling lights and sounds before calling it a day!
Day 2: Hogsmeade and Hogwarts at Islands of Adventure
Early Morning: Arrival and Riding Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure
Welcome to day 2 of this Harry Potter World itinerary!
Now that you’ve sufficiently explored Diagon Alley in Universal Studios, it’s time to make your way to Hogwarts (just like Harry!).
The Hogwarts Castle and Hogsmeade Village are located inside of Islands of Adventure, a separate park from Universal Studios/Diagon Alley.
As mentioned, this itinerary assumes you don’t have a park hopper (so you can’t ride the Hogwarts Express), so we are spending one full day in Universal and one full day in Islands.
Arriving at Islands of Adventure and Harry Potter World
Just like day 1, don’t forget to check the opening times for the park before you go!
If Islands of Adventure has early entry when you are visiting (and you are staying at an on-site resort), make sure to take advantage of it! If not, I recommend arriving to the park around 30 minutes before opening.
Once arriving to CityWalk, you’ll continue straight (keeping slightly left) in order to reach the front of Islands of Adventure!
After entering the park, make a right once you reach the lake and head towards Seuss Landing. This is the fastest route to Harry Potter World!
Once you’re through Seuss Landing, you’ll have a brief walk through the Lost Continent area before reaching the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!
First, you’ll pass by Hogsmeade station, which is where the Hogwarts Express train runs to Diagon Alley, and then you’ll be greeted with the entrance to Hogsmeade Village, straight out of the movies with snow-capped houses and all.
Riding Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure
As soon as you reach Hogsmeade Village, you’ll want to make a beeline for the Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure (I’m going to call it Hagrid’s for short from now on!).
Hagrid’s is the newest ride at Harry Potter World and therefore is still extremely popular. If you want a chance at riding it without waiting hours, you need to get to the park as early as possible (hence the 30 minutes before opening recommendation)!
If you can plan your visit with Early Entry, it is definitely worth it for this ride!
The ride is located in the middle of Hogsmeade village on the right hand side. Once you arrive, you’ll have to put any bags in a locker and then get in line. While the queue might be long, it’s well-themed and very entertaining!
In case you don’t know, Hagrid’s is an epic rollercoaster ride with realistic animatronics of all Hagrid’s creatures from the books and movies and is 100% worth the wait!
Each ride vehicle row has one motorbike and one sidecar. The motorbike side is a bit more exposed and therefore more thrilling – I recommend snagging that side if you can! But both seats are awesome.
Insider Tip: There is no Express Pass for Hagrid’s, and the single rider’s line can be hit or miss in terms of availability. If it is open during your visit, it might be worth trying it to reduce your wait time!
Riding Forbidden Journey
After conquering Hagrid’s, it’s time to head straight to the iconic Hogwarts Castle for your next magical adventure: Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.
This ride is located inside the castle itself, which means the queue is part of the experience.
In my opinion, the queue is actually the best part! So, I don’t recommend using the single rider line for this ride because you miss so much of the queue!
You’ll walk through iconic spots like Dumbledore’s office, the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, and the Gryffindor common room.
Universal really nailed the theming on this one. You’ll see moving portraits, holograms of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, a talking Sorting Hat, and so many other Easter Eggs from the books and movies!
Once you reach the ride loading zone, you’ll board an “enchanted bench” and soar through a mix of screen-based and physical set scenes featuring everything from a Quidditch match to a Dementor attack.
💡 Insider Tip: This ride is a bit intense for some people. It uses a robotic arm to simulate flying, and while it doesn’t go upside down, it has a lot of quick, jerky motion. If you’re prone to motion sickness, you might want to skip it—or at least ride it before you eat lunch.
When you exit the ride, you’ll end up in Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods, one of my favorite places to shop in all of Harry Potter World!
In this store, you’ll find unique collectibles, house gear, stuffed creatures, and so much more! It’s a great place to start your shopping spree before exploring the rest of Hogsmeade.
Late Morning: Exploring Hogsmeade Village
After riding Forbidden Journey, it’s time to explore the rest of the shops in Hogsmeade Village!
But first, Butterbeer! 🍺 (Don’t worry, it’s alcohol-free!).
Right when exiting Forbidden Journey, you’ll find a small Butterbeer cart to the right (before the bridge!).
Whether you go for the classic cold Butterbeer, the frozen version (my favorite on hot days), or the warm one during winter, it’s a rite of passage to drink Butterbeer in Harry Potter World. You can also grab a snack nearby if you’re peckish!
Now that you’ve got your drink in hand, it’s time to explore the shops. Even if you’re not planning to buy anything, definitely walk through them and see the exteriors. Just like in Diagon Alley, Universal went all in on the details here!
Here’s a quick breakdown of the four main shops to check out in Hogsmeade!
Honeydukes – You can’t miss the bright green and pink storefront. This candy shop is packed with treats straight out of the books: Chocolate Frogs, Fizzing Whizzbees, Exploding Bonbons, and of course, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans. It’s usually busy, but worth it!
Dervish and Banges – This shop is connected to the Owl Post and carries all kinds of Hogwarts-themed gear. You’ll find house robes, notebooks, and cool magical trinkets like Sneakoscopes and Remembralls. There’s even a Monster Book of Monsters in a cage!
Owl Post – Right next to Dervish and Banges, this shop lets you send real mail with a Hogsmeade postmark! You can also find quills, stationery, and owl plushies here.
Ollivander’s Wand Shop – Almost identical to the one in Diagon Alley, including the “wand chooses the wizard” performance. If you’ve already done it in Diagon, you can skip the one in Hogsmeade!
If you bought an interactive wand on Day 1, now’s the time to use it again! Look for the spell medallions on the ground—there are several scattered throughout Hogsmeade.
Some of my favorite spells include making a snowman blow bubbles and unlocking a hidden door near the restroom entrance. Don’t forget to use the map that came with your wand to track them all down!
And speaking of the bathroom, if you’re a girl, you’ll want to take a quick visit inside to hear a familiar voice! (Hint: she’s a bit moaning!).
While wandering around Hogsmeade, make sure to peek into the shop windows, even the ones you can’t enter. Some of them have moving displays or magical effects that are easy to miss! Plus, there’s tons of Easter Eggs from the books.
Overall, Hogsmeade is a much smaller area than Diagon Alley, so you’ll have more time to enjoy the details without feeling rushed.
Lastly, if you have small children or just want to ride everything, make sure to check out the Flight of the Hippogriff, a small, kid-friendly roller coaster across from the Hogwarts Castle!
Early Afternoon: Lunch at the Three Broomsticks
By now, you’ve probably worked up an appetite, and there’s no better spot for lunch than The Three Broomsticks! Seriously, it’s my favorite place to eat in all of Islands of Adventure.
This rustic tavern sits right in the heart of Hogsmeade and feels exactly like the one described in the books. Wooden beams, flickering lanterns, and magical details everywhere. Make sure to look up once you get inside! There’s also seating out back with a great view of the castle.
The menu here has traditional British pub food like the Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley, but it also has more American-friendly meals like rotisserie chicken, ribs, turkey legs, etc!
If you’re visiting with a family of 4-5, I highly recommend the Great Feast, which is a combination platter and a great bang for your buck.
🍗 Insider Tip: Sometimes you’ll be able to skip the line and order food through the Universal app, but other times, they require everyone to use the app and you still have to wait in line! If this is the case, try to snag a table out back to avoid the inside line.
Inside the Three Broomsticks building, you’ll also find the Hog’s Head pub. (If you’re a HP nerd, you probably know these are two different establishments in Hogsmeade, but we will let it slide this time!).
The Hog’s Head is a small bar where you can get Butterbeer and Pumpkin juice, as well as a wide range of alcoholic drinks like themed beer, Firewhiskey, and more!
I recommend grabbing a drink then catching one of the two free shows on the stage near the castle – the Frog Choir or the Triwizard Spirit Rally. Similar to the ones at Diagon, these run periodically throughout the day. You can find the next showtime in the Universal app!
Afternoon: Experiencing the Rest of Islands of Adventure
After lunch, you’ve got the whole afternoon ahead of you to explore the rest of Islands of Adventure! There’s a ton to see outside of the Harry Potter section (even more than at Universal Studios in my opinion), so it’s worth checking out a few other lands while you’re here!
Here are the areas I recommend prioritizing!
The Jurassic Park land is right next to Hogsmeade, so it’s the perfect first stop. If you’re into thrill rides, you have to ride the brand new VelociCoaster.
It’s one of the most intense roller coasters I’ve ever been on, and it’s ridiculously smooth and fast!
If you’re not into big thrills, check out Jurassic Park River Adventure instead. It’s a boat ride with a surprise drop at the end and some awesome dinosaur animatronics!
There are also some great photo ops in the Jurassic Park area, including the raptor encounter where you can “meet” a pretty convincing velociraptor.
Continuing counter-clockwise around the park, the next land you’ll reach is Skull Island!
The Reign of Kong ride is a dark, intense safari-style adventure. The animatronics are awesome, and it has a few jump scares! Nothing too scary, but something to keep in mind if you’ve got younger kids.
Next up, head toward the Marvel area for even more action-packed rides. The two main ones here are the Incredible Hulk Coaster and the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man.
The Hulk is a huge green coaster with several corkscrews and upside downs. It’s not for the faint of heart, but it’s super fun if you’re a thrill-seeker.
The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man is a 3D motion ride that is the classic Universal experience and a must-do in my opinion!
Aside from Marvel land, there’s also Toon Lagoon that features two different water rides and several play areas, as well as Seuss Landing, which is geared towards small kids but fun for any Dr. Seuss lover!
Overall, you probably won’t be able to ride every ride in Islands of Adventure in one afternoon, unless you have an Express Pass. So make sure to do some research on which rides are most important to you!
Evening: Return to Harry Potter World
To wrap up your day, I highly recommend heading back to Hogsmeade Village before the park closes. Just like Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade takes on a completely different feel at night.
The snow-covered rooftops glow under the warm light of the lanterns, and it honestly feels like you’ve stepped into a storybook! The crowds usually die down in the last hour or so, which makes it a great time to revisit your favorite spots or cast a few more spells with your interactive wand.
Depending on the time of year, you might even catch the nighttime lights show on the Hogwarts Castle. The shows are usually seasonal, like the Dark Arts show around Halloween or the Christmas projection show during the holidays.
You can check showtimes in the Universal app or on the boards throughout the park. They normally start at dusk!
If you’re really lucky, try to ride Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure again just after sunset if the line has died down!
Riding it at night is a totally different experience—the outdoor track winds through the dark Forbidden Forest, and it feels way more magical with the cool air and dim lighting.
Before you leave, take one last stroll through Hogsmeade with a Butterbeer in hand, and soak in the music, the lights, and the magic one last time. The perfect end to your 2-day Harry Potter World itinerary!!
